Tillage
At LaSelva we have always taken care of our land, focusing on organic farming. Soil fertility is preserved and maintained by using special tillage methods: the soil is not ploughed, but tilled with a subsoiler so that the active layers of the soil are not inverted. Weeds are fought using mechanical means such as weeders or rotary harrows. Another important measure is maintaining organic matter at constant levels, which is done by enriching it with nutrients through the use of self-produced manure.
We also use compost, which is obtained by collecting all organic matter, such as straw, cattle manure, pruning residues and vegetable processing waste, which are mixed with the soil and left to mature.
