Agricultural rotation

piantine

In order to preserve and improve the fertility of our fields over the years, we have followed the principle of 7-8 year crop rotation for over 35 years. This practice consists of varying the agricultural species grown in each single plot and is essential for improving long-term soil health and obtaining good harvests. The virtuous cycle that is established enables LaSelva’s fields to be constantly enriched with essential nutrients.
In the first 3 years of rotation, nitrogen-fixing plants are sown and harvested, and then used as forage or hay. By cutting the nitrogen-fixing plants (such as alfalfa) and the meadow crops, weeds are also eliminated naturally.
